Our History

MADFA Cooperative Savings and credit Society Ltd was started by small holder farmers under Masindi District Farmers Association (MADFA) in response to the need for financial services. The society started as a savings and loan association under Masindi District Farmers Association (MADFA) with 30 members in January 2005. It was registered on June 5, 2005 as a cooperative savings and credit society (SACCO) by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, registration number 7331/RCS.  The mandate of MADFA SACCO is to provide its members appropriate financial services and education to economically empower them for improved livelihood.

MADFA SACCO is a member owned, member used and member governed financial institution. It is governed by a Board of directors elected by the annual general assembly to serve a term of 2 years renewable only once.  The general assembly also elects a supervisory committee that is tasked with ensuring the society operations are within the set policies and procedures. The society has positioned itself as one of the leading provider of financial services to small holder farmers in Masindi and Kiryandongo districts. It is currently serving over 20,000 small holder farmers. It is headquartered in Masindi Municipality with branches in Kiryandongo, Bulima and Kijunjubwa town councils.

The interventions of MADFA SACCO in the agriculture value chain financing can be categorized into two: the primary activities and support activities. Primary activities include financing activities that are directly involved in the production, processing and distribution of Maize, rice, beans, soya bean and sunflower. The support activities are delivered in partnership with sister organizations (i.e. Masindi District Farmers Association, Masindi Seed and Grain Growers Limited, and Masindi Seed Company).
